Cost per person view

Where the seat math turns green.

A private charter is fixed-cost — fill more seats and the per-passenger number drops fast. Use this view to find the cabin class and passenger count where charter beats first-class commercial for your group.

  • Six passengers is the crossover. On most midsize round-trips, charter drops below first-class commercial per person once the cabin is more than half full.
  • Same aircraft, every leg. Round-trip on one aircraft is usually cheaper than two one-way legs once you factor in repositioning.
  • Wait vs overnight. Up to ~8 hours on the ground, billed wait time. Beyond that, an overnight fee typically wins for the operator and the trip.

Outcome quotes attributed by role only — no invented names, no theater. Just the metrics our clients feel.

"The wait-time slider settled a debate we'd had for years — when to book two one-ways vs a round trip. We re-baselined our whole travel policy off the cost-per-person view."

FAQ

How the calculator actually models your trip.

Five questions that explain the math behind the planning total.

How is wait time calculated?

Modeling When you keep the aircraft and crew on the ground between legs, the operator bills standby time at a reduced hourly rate that covers crew duty time, ramp or hangar parking, APU use, and the aircraft being unavailable for other charters.

The modeler multiplies your wait hours by a per-class wait rate (roughly 15–18% of the flight-hour rate). Same-day round-trips usually bill wait time; multi-day trips usually bill a flat overnight fee instead.

One-way vs round-trip — which is cheaper?

Compare For most short and medium hauls, a round-trip on the same aircraft with wait time on the ground is cheaper than two separate one-way legs. That's because one-way pricing has to account for the operator repositioning the aircraft or flying it home empty.

The OW vs RT compare view in the modeler shows both side by side. The note flags the crossover when two one-ways beat the round-trip — most commonly on longer overnights.

Does overnight always add cost?

Overnight Almost always. An overnight triggers a flat per-night fee covering crew hotel, hangar or ramp parking, and aircraft availability for the return leg.

For trips of two or more nights, it can sometimes become cheaper to book two one-way legs instead of holding the aircraft — the compare view flags this when the round-trip path exceeds two one-way legs.

How does international charter cost modeling work?

International International legs add oceanic or overflight handling, customs and immigration fees, landing permits, and longer sectors that often require a heavy or ultra-long-range jet.

The modeler scales the hourly rate by aircraft class and lets you set flight hours that reflect a great-circle route — e.g. TEB to London Biggin Hill (EGBJ) on an Ultra long-range is roughly 6.5 hours; HOU to EGBJ on a Global 6000 is roughly 10 hours. Final firm quotes include permits, handling, and international segment fees.

Can I export my charter cost scenario?

Export Yes. Run your scenario in the modeler, then choose Get my all-in price — 3 quotes to send the exact trip parameters — class, route, OW/RT, wait hours, overnight nights, pax — to Private JetOne.

We return up to three firm operator quotes against your modeled trip, so you can compare apples to apples. There is no charge for the modeling or the quote comparison.
